The noble metal silver is used for many different pieces of jewellery.
You should use solely 925 sterling silver and don´t apply directly in the canaliculus, but only carry it surface with a stud made of titanium (e.g. as nippleshield).
In no case silver should be used for initial application, because the material sheds a lot of nickel and at this point it could get to skin irritations till to rejection.
Silver is a white-gleaming material, which unfortunately tends to turn black and so to discoloured. To prevent this there are rhodium-plated piercings made of 925 silver, whose a special alloying is bring up.
People, who suffer from a nickel allergy should waive on silver jewellery completely..
