The navel piercing (also belly button piercing) is stitched vertical through the upper or lower skin fold which surrounded the navel.
But it also can be arranged sidewise or applied in the abdominal wall surrounded the navel.
By the navel piercing it come down to the anatomy of the carrier. Is the navel archs outwards, then it´s usually only possible to pierce the navel itselfs instead of pierce the surrounded skin tissue. Therefore you should consult by an professional piercer. The proper stitching isn´t feeled as very painful, though the healing process is very protected and could mould complicated.
Because the part of the belly button is always burdened because of walking stooping and the clothing, this piercing needs intensive care and accuracy. Absolutely you should take care of well-fitting clothing, which don´t push or rub at the part of piercing (e. g. belts etc).
Then the healing takes about 2 to 6 months.
For jewellery a banana barbell is the most common, but also a BCR or special belly button jewellery can applied.
