A microdermal (also dermal anchor, skinplate) is special jewellery, whose a plate of titanium is bring under the skin, so that the jewellery grows in.
On this plate sits a vertical stud with a core thread, in which different attachments could be screwed. Microdermals are easy to apply, due to it small size (2mm), though they can´t be removed by the carrier themselves through unscrewing, but the skin must be opened again with a scalpel.
The onset must be made very carefully and cleanly, its stomached of the most and gives only slight pains.
Microdermals have an increased infection risk opposite to other piercings, because it involves a skin pocket and not a canaliculus, of which the wound water or pollutions could flow off or be flushed out relative easy.
The healing of the surface takes about 4 to 6 weeks, the forming of the skin pocket 2 to 4 months.
The healed microdermal needs all the same thoroughly care than the recent applied microdermal, because the externally opened skin pocket is an ideal place for germs. Further you should regard that you don´t get caught somewhere, because a not healed microdermal involves the risk that it grows awry.
Skindiver
Skindiver are applied under the skin just as dermal anchors. The difference is that the attachments of the skindiver don´t get to changed and they are also a bit smaller than microdermals.
